toe pain upon weight bearing

Holy mackeral!!!! Please help!!! As a nurse I'm on my feet all day ....,many hours of pain...My 2 toes on Left foot have a cracking sound upon weight bearing, not every step I take but most of them...Taping helped a little...What about a splint of some kind??? What is the cracking sound ? bone, ligaments,and why??? Thanks for the info Dodie RN
