An MRI might indicate more. A podiatrist specializes in the foot and ankle. A podiatrist can have different suggestions on how to treat a foot problem, both condervative and surgical. A general orthopedist does the whole body. A foot orthopedist overlaps with the podiatrist, but tends to look at the problem more surgically oriented. Please be aware that this is only a generalization, and can vary from person to person.
