Pain in ball of left foot

Fifteen or so years ago while at work, I stood on the tips of my toes to reach something on a shelf. I felt a lanceing pain in my left foot. I sat down and took off my shoe, under the big toe and the second toe at the top of the ball of my foot was what looked to me like a huge ( bigger than a quarter) blood blister. I never went to a doctor. For the last several years I have constant pain in the same spot. Any idea on what is wrong with my left foot.
