Metatarsalgia

I went to the Dr a week ago yesterday with swelling in my ball of foot area & pain in my 3rd toe. She told me after the xrays that she believed it is Metatarsalgia. I have been icing it & taking IBprofen & have Metatarsal pads in my shoes. But the swelling won't go down. My middle toe seems to be more sensitive. Is this normal? How long does Metatarsalgia take to heal?
