If you do a Google search for heel spur and plantar fasciitis, you will see there are numerous conservative treatments for this common problem. Doctors all differ in their approach to treating this.

As far as the spur growing back after surgery, I will comment from my own patient's experience.

All bone when cut, will regrow somewhat. Heel spur surgery is more about cutting the plantar fascia. In fact, there is a procedure called endoscopic plantar fasciotomy (EPF) that only does this and leaves the spur intact.

You need to discuss your options with your doctor.
