This is by no means absolute- every patient isa different. The alcohol injections can range from 5-7. If there is no response after 3, it probably isn't going to work. As far as "cortisone"- the max is 3 injections. There are numerous potential side effects from each of these.

As far as doing both- I can't answer personally. Usually if the patient has not gotten a favorable response they opt for surgery. You should ask your doctor about his/her experience with doing both.
