Pain in nail of big toe

I have a ingrown toe nail on my big toe. I get a pedicure every two weeks and the girl who does it started every week cutting the nail away from where it was grown in the skin. This took weeks to get it done but the nail is totally cut away on the side that meets the skin. Now I have pain in the nail bed from the cuticle to the end of the nail. The skin around my nail does not hurt at all, just the nail itself. Do you what could be causing this. Thanks
