painful heel area

I have pain in my left heel and have an area where skin is also numb on the soul of my left heel. It has got progressively worse over the last few weeks, and is actually keeping me awake at night, anti inflammatories do not touch this discomfort. I have a disc protrusion between L5 and S1. Could this be related? (I had CT scan and MRI done for confirmation). I am waiting for a consult with an orthopedic surgeon, but that could take months. Hope you can help.
