re: toe spacer/splint

dr.abrams/or anyone else,
has anyone used a big toe spacer or splint post bunionectomy? i've heard some docs like them, mine did not give me one. i was wondering if they are affective preventing the large toe from re-positioning to point towards the other toes again? thanks! also, i'm 19 days post-op when does the bruising finally go away?
