painful 3rd toe

While I was at my doctors office I asked him what was causing fairly severe pain and swelling in my third toe. He said it's probably tendonitis. I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and I'm wondering if I could possibly have a broken bone in my toe? I have difficulty stepping on my left foot/toe. Thanks.
