I sustained an acute fracture (with minimal bone displacement)to my fifth metatrasal a year ago. In Jan.it began to hurt like crazy, with excruiating pain in my toes--not to mention magnifying a heel spur. It was a worker's comp., and their answer was that the place was healed, the toe pain was metatarsalgia, and I should get orthodics (sp.?). It took them so long to fit me, however, that I visited a podiatrist on my own. He said I have Morton's neurome, gave me cortizone shots there and in my bone spurs, said the original fracture was not healed and that I should go back to the other dr, which I did today. They were no help at all, insisting that the x-ray "looks better than in Feb., I have metarsalgia, and I need orthodics," which they MIGHT pay for. Meanwhile, the fractured place throbs with every heartbeat, the toes hurt, the bone spur hurts, and the pain creeps up my leg. I CAN HARDLY WALK! From whom should seek help? Sports medicine? Neurologist? A witch doctor?? I'm desperate, and no one seems to realize how much pain I'm in. PLEASE ADVISE!
