Screw removal

I am having reactions to the screws used in a Osteotomy/CHeilectomy. My doctor recommended having them removed. He stated that I would need to wear the surgical shoe again for a couple of weeks. How long before the bone is totally healed and have you ever used"bone putty" to fill the holes left by the screws?
