Without examining you I can not state anything for certain. But from your description, at the very least, a ligament was involved. To what degree, I can't say. I must respectfully disagree with your assumption that only fractures are worthy of having the doctor look at it. I always treat an ankle sprain as carefully as I treat a fracture. Until you get this checked out, please use crutches or immobilize it in an old cast boot you might have from previous injuries.
