4 broken Medatarsal bones

I fell and broke 4 medatarsal bones in my left foot. The ER doctor-not an Orthopedist- told me keep comlpetely off of it and gave me a splint. Today I saw the orthopod he recommended and he told me it would heal just as fast whether I walked on the foot or not. He gave a sort or sandal-boot and told me it would hurt but it was okay to walk on it. I am VERY confused!! Any suggestions?? Do I need a second opinion? Margy
